J. Clark Armitage spoke with Bloomberg BNA concerning the new IRS audit strategy which will start campaigns focused on tracking down large-scale tax avoidance. Mr. Armitage commented how the IRS has be using this strategy for years in the transfer pricing area. "The IRS has been doing campaign-style audits in the transfer pricing area for several years, before the notion was adopted throughout the Large and Mid-Size Business Division," Mr. Armitage said. "The agency is focused on risk assessment, and examiners have been willing to drop cases and issues where they didn't find the return on investment was enough to keep going."
