Michael Pfeifer Named a Leading Practitioner by Who's Who Legal

December 3, 2018, Who's Who Legal

The 2018 edition of Who’s Who Legal: Private Client lists Michael Pfeifer as one of the world’s leading global private client, wealth management practitioners. Individuals selected by Who’s Who Legal received the highest number of nominations and are seen as thought leaders amongst their peers and market sources. Mr. Pfeifer is listed under the Trust and Advisory Services sector, which highlights practitioners for their outstanding work in advising individuals, families, companies, and charities on matters that range from taxation to trust structuring to asset management.

Mr. Pfeifer's practice focuses on the international tax issues of wealthy individuals, including entertainers and athletes. He counsels clients on planning for pre-immigration and expatriation, as well as structuring tax efficient cross-border investments. Moreover, Mr. Pfeifer advises high-net-worth individuals and their families on estate planning matters, including the use of domestic and foreign trusts, and tax controversy matters such as voluntary disclosure proceedings.

From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Pfeifer was Special Assistant to the Associate Chief Counsel (International) at the Internal Revenue Service, where he directed the legislative project that culminated in the 1996 foreign trust tax changes. He was also the primary architect of the Clinton Administration's expatriation tax proposal while at the IRS, including the revisions to the section 1441 withholding tax rules, and the development of the "check-the-box" rules for entity classification.
