Mortimer Caplin Steps Down from Danaher Board to Focus on Tax Law

February 11, 2013, Caplin & Drysdale

Caplin & Drysdale founder, Mortimer M. Caplin, plans on stepping down from the board of Danaher Corp. in May of this year to "spend more time on two of his passions: tax law and the University of Virginia," reports Bloomberg.  Mr. Caplin, who joined Danaher's board in 1990, is identified as the oldest corporate director according to data compiled by Bloomberg.  In a phone interview, Mr. Caplin stated "I haven't regarded age as a real factor. It's a question of capability and I suppose willingness at the same time."

Appointed to be Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service by President Kennedy, Mr. Caplin's fellow partners routinely seek his sage advice in matters involving tax law.  "I'm still practicing law, and our firm is very heavily involved in the tax world," said Mr. Caplin.  "I swim every day and I'm at the office every day."  For more on the story, please visit Bloomberg's website.

Danaher is a Washington-based provider of measurement and diagnostic equipment.
