New York Times Reports Mayor Michael Bloomberg Retained Trevor Potter for Advice on Presidential Campaign

Trevor Potter, former general counsel to John McCain's 2008 campaign, was retained by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to assist his exploration of a run for president as an independent, the New York Times reported. Mr. Potter and a team of Caplin & Drysdale's litigators and political activities lawyers assembled a network of law firms across the country to be prepared to handle local and state ballot-access issues and potential litigation, and address constitutional questions that could arise from an inconclusive result in the Electoral College. On March 7, 2016, Mr. Bloomberg said he will not enter the 2016 campaign citing his fear that a three-way race could lead to a Electoral College deadlock and throw the race into the House of Representatives.
