Caplin & Drysdale Recognized for Tax Credit Guide for Employers Who Hire Veterans
Firm Honored for Its Role in Assisting Employers Who Hire Veterans
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 28, 2014 – On October 23, 2014, American Jobs for America's Heroes — a nonprofit military hiring campaign coordinated between the National Guard, private sector employers, trade associations, and the nonprofit community — presented Caplin & Drysdale with its first annual "Delivering on the Promise Honor Roll Award" for the firm's outstanding commitment and leadership, and for its substantial efforts in helping National Guard members, reservists, and veterans gain civilian employment. Beth Shapiro Kaufman, a Member of Caplin & Drysdale, remarked, "We are honored to receive this recognition, but the true reward is knowing that we have helped National Guard members, reservists, and veterans who selflessly served our country to find employment when they return home." Caplin & Drysdale attorneys created a user-friendly guide to help employers take advantage of tax benefits available for hiring qualified veterans. Inspiration for the guide, the 2013 Federal Tax Benefits for Hiring and Employing Qualified Veterans, National Guard Members and Reservists, came from employers expressing frustration with the tax credit process, from determining whether the employer and veteran qualify for as many as four tax benefits, to the timing of filing for the tax benefits. "Our goal was to break down the barriers for employers by offering step-by-step guidance on the 2013 tax credits, including key eligibility and filing details to maximize tax benefits to employers and to try to ultimately increase the number of veterans being hired," said Clinton G. Wallace, the attorney who drafted the guide. "We hope the guide was a useful tool on how to best qualify for the benefits and how to avoid the procedural pitfalls." The event was held at the National Guard Association of the United States. Pictured here is the Hall of Flags.
