This course endeavors to provide a fundamental understanding of the rules and issues faced by tax return preparers with international clients — that is, non-resident aliens that are statutory residents of the United States, U.S. citizens and green card holders resident outside the United States, and U.S. persons with business activity outside the United States. We will explore U.S. tax rules and obligations of a U.S. resident, the tax treatment of a U.S. person’s interest in foreign assets, and the effect of U.S. tax treaties on such taxation.
