 Firm Elevates Attorneys from Tax and Litigation Practice Groups 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 1, 2016: Caplin & Drysdale is pleased to announce that Rachel L. Partain has become a Member of the Firm and that Jeanna Rickards Koski has become Of Counsel.  "Rachel and Jeanna's promotions reflect the high level of service each offers to their respective client base," remarked Firm President Beth Shapiro Kaufman."The Firm's leadership is delighted that these two talented attorneys have been promoted." 

A key Member in Caplin's New York Tax Controversies and Tax Litigation practice groups, Ms. Partain represents high-net-worth individuals ("HNWIs"), corporations, and TEFRA and other partnerships in complex federal and state tax controversy and litigation matters.  She provides skilled counsel to clients involved in examinations, appeals, tax and bankruptcy litigation, collections, compliance reviews, and internal investigations. Moreover, Ms. Partain partners with clients to develop policies and procedures that help reduce their risks and enhance their business operations. 

Clients further benefit from Ms. Partain's substantial experience in advising businesses and HNWIs on how to structure transactions in a tax-efficient manner, including counseling clients on debt equity characterization, tax treatment of settlement payments, debt modification, cancellation of indebtedness, income tax accounting, Section 382 limitations, and treaty issues.

Ms. Partain was named recipient of the American Bar Association's Nolan Fellowship in 2012, is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, and was a New York Super Lawyer "Rising Star" for 2013-2014.

Based in the Firm's Washington, D.C., office, Ms. Koski is a valuable lawyer with the Firm's Complex Litigation and Bankruptcy practice groups.  Individual and corporate clients rely on her litigation skills on a diverse range of complex issues in state and federal courts across the country.  Clients include institutional investors and creditors' committees in matters involving general litigation, toxic tort litigation, and bankruptcy.  Further, Ms. Koski acts on behalf of clients in fraudulent transfer and creditors' rights litigation

Additionally, Ms. Koski's broad experience in toxic tort litigation comprises dealing with the constitutional issues that arise in such cases, and requires the briefing of complex issues of first impression before federal district courts, bankruptcy courts, and courts of appeals.
