She's had an extraordinary tenure and she accomplished a great deal," Scott Michel, a member of Caplin & Drysdale, Chartered in Washington, told Bloomberg BNA May 27.
Michel and other practitioners praised the Justice Department's groundbreaking program to allow Swiss banks to turn over information on American account holders in exchange for a chance to avoid prosecution.
The program is "unique in tax enforcement history," Michel said, and is "already a success" with more than 100 banks seeking to participate. "The next step is for both the IRS and the DOJ to move beyond Switzerland," he said.
