Jonathan Black and Monty Crawford Promoted to Members of the Firm
Caplin & Drysdale is pleased to announce the promotion of Jonathan Black and Monty Crawford to Member of the Firm effective October 1, 2024. Congratulations Jonathan and Monty!
Jonathan R. Black joined Caplin & Drysdale in 2019 as part of the Tax Disputes & Tax Litigation and Complex Litigation practice groups where he advises on tax compliance and reporting obligations, strategizes with clients to defend IRS audits, and assists with investigations and litigation. Prior to joining Caplin & Drysdale, Mr. Black served as an attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service, where he defended the IRS in Tax Court, drafted regulations and other published guidance, and advised the IRS and the Department of Justice on a myriad of legal issues. He also provided IRS attorneys training on administrative law and legal ethics.
Monty Crawford joined Caplin & Drysdale in 2020 as part of the Complex Litigation and Bankruptcy practice groups. Mr. Crawford focuses his practice primarily on complex commercial litigation, governmental investigations, and international disputes. He advises a broad range of individual and corporate clients in state, federal, and international matters and has appeared before federal and state courts across the country. In the bankruptcy arena, Mr. Crawford protects the rights and interests of creditors, tort claimants, official creditors' committees, and labor organizations. He serves as the chair of the International Law Committee of the Maryland State Bar Association. Mr. Crawford formally served as a lecturer on international litigation at the University of Maryland Law School.
