Caplin & Drysdale is thrilled to announce that Conor Desmond and Yossi Koppel have joined the Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Desmond is part of the Tax Disputes and Tax Litigation practice group and Mr. Koppel is part of the Private Client practice group. 

Mr. Desmond advises clients on a broad range of tax issues with a particular focus on assisting individuals, trusts, partnerships, and corporate entities with responding to and defending against civil IRS audits and examinations, as well as actions involving Federal Court such as refunds or other matters. In 2024, the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division recognized Mr. Desmond as an On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyer. Prior to joining Caplin & Drysdale, he served as trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division where he led multiple teams presenting arguments in both bench and trial matters, devising strategy, drafting discovery, reviewing settlement offers, solving problems as they arose and reaching successful conclusions.

Mr. Koppel advises high-net-worth clients on tax-efficient strategies to meet their estate planning objectives. Prior to joining the firm, he served as an attorney in the Passthroughs & Special Industries Division at the IRS Office of Chief Counsel where he worked on matters involving trusts, partnerships, and S corporations. While at Harvard Law School, he represented small businesses and nonprofits through the Transactional Law Clinic, externed for Judge Travis A. Greaves at the United States Tax Court, and served as a Teaching Fellow.
