Kirsten Burmester is a Member in Caplin & Drysdale's Washington, D.C., office. She joined the firm in 2005, after earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Services
Ms. Burmester's practice at Caplin & Drysdale focuses on a broad range of international tax issues, including both planning and controversy work. She has extensive experience advising high-net-worth individuals with respect to closely held businesses and international taxation issues, as well as counseling clients on a variety of general tax issues that arise in the private client practice. Ms. Burmester frequently represents foreign individuals on pre-immigration planning and structuring investments into the U.S., and advises U.S. individuals on the U.S. tax implications of offshore investment and estate planning structures. She has advised individual taxpayers claiming bona fide residency in Puerto Rico and their businesses.
Ms. Burmester offers guidance to businesses on international taxation issues, including GILTI and subpart F, withholding and information reporting, transfer pricing, treaty issues. She represents clients in IRS examinations, Appeals matters, advance pricing agreement (APA) negotiations, and competent authority proceedings.
